During a recent interview with IGN, Yoshinori Kitase discussed the future direction of Final Fantasy, including the possibility of future adaptations and Square Enix's approach to remakes versus new titles.

Future Final Fantasy TV series could be a possibility

Kitase said that future TV series inspired by the story of Final Fantasy could be a possibility.

He said the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy explored the world of Final Fantasy VII more deeply than the original game, and suggested that its expanded storytelling could provide opportunities for future adaptations.

“I think that it would be nice to have in the future games or TV series inspired by the story of Final Fantasy. And I don’t see why that should not be a possibility in the future.”

Square Enix more likely to invest in new games than remakes

Kitase also said that Square Enix is more likely to invest in new titles and new games moving forward. He explained that remakes remain possible in specific cases, particularly when the original creators have a strong connection to the project.

Kitase cited the Final Fantasy VII remake as an example, saying the team wanted to create something new from the original game so that both new and longtime players could experience its appeal.

“I think that mainly we are more likely to invest in new titles and new games.”

Kitase did not rule out future remakes, but said the company’s broader direction is likely to favor new projects.
