Naoki Hamaguchi Discusses Supernova, Future FFVII Projects and Potential First Soldier DLC

During a recent interview with IGN France, Naoki Hamaguchi addressed several topics relating to the upcoming game, its post-launch DLC, and the future of the Final Fantasy VII series.
Supernova: “Learn to make coffee!”
Asked whether players would have time to make themselves a coffee during Sephiroth’s Supernova animation in the final battle, Hamaguchi responded:
“I know a lot of people are waiting for us to implement an option to shorten the ‘Supernova’ attack. I have only one thing to say: learn to make coffee!”
He acknowledged that many players hope for an option to shorten the attack, but did not announce a skip feature or any planned changes to the animation.
No further Final Fantasy VII projects decided
Hamaguchi also said that no further Final Fantasy VII projects have been decided beyond Final Fantasy VII Revelation and the two DLC releases he is currently working on.
“At the moment, I have no idea what the future of Final Fantasy VII will be because, beyond what I have announced to you and which I will take care of, there is absolutely nothing decided around this question.”
Hamaguchi said his current focus is making sure Revelation meets players’ expectations and that its two DLC releases are successful.
First Soldier DLC remains possible
Hamaguchi was also asked whether a future Final Fantasy VII Revelation DLC could revisit the First Soldier storyline from Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. He made clear that this is only a possibility, not an announced project.
He explained that Ever Crisis is already connected to the remake trilogy through its story, particularly through the character of Glenn, and said Square Enix knows players are attached to the First Soldier story.
“That said, yes, returning to the story of these First Soldiers in a future DLC is something that is conceivable.”
