Update:
Other than the previous reports from Gamescom 2025 demos suggesting the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade might be running at 40fps, Square Enix confirmed today on social media that the game will run at 30fps.
At Gamescom 2025, Square Enix presented a playable demo of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2, giving attendees the first opportunity to test the port’s performance on the new system.
The handheld demo highlighted a stable experience, with smooth gameplay and minimal loading times. Menus operated without lag, text remained clear, and cutscenes adapted well to the smaller screen. Character switching responded immediately, even during the hectic early reactor sequence, and combat sequences did not stutter. While graphical details such as Cloud’s hair were less refined than on higher-end systems, overall visual quality held up strongly on the handheld display.
The console hardware remained cool throughout the demo, with no signs of overheating or heavy fan noise. However, concerns were noted about battery endurance for longer RPG play sessions.
A clarification about framerate was shared during the show, following initial confusion:
“Many apologies for the mistake I made in this video, I genuinely believed the game was running at 60fps. Having looked over the gameplay though, it appears to be a locked 30fps… HOWEVER, staff on the Final Fantasy booth have subsequently cleared things up, confirming that the game was actually running at 40fps!! All in all, the game runs super smooth and feels GREAT to play on switch 2!”
