Square Enix Reports Lower HD Game, MMO, and Merchandise Revenue in April–June 2025 Quarter

Square Enix reported lower revenue and operating income for its Digital Entertainment segment in the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026.
Digital Entertainment net sales were ¥32.9 billion, down ¥11.0 billion from the same period last year. Operating income fell to ¥8.1 billion, a drop of ¥1.6 billion year-on-year. The decline was mainly due to weaker sales in HD Games, MMO titles, and Games for Smart Devices and PC Browser.
In HD Games, net sales came to ¥8.9 billion, down from ¥12.3 billion last year. However, operating profit rose to ¥1.0 billion thanks to lower amortization of development costs and reduced advertising expenses. Several new titles launched in June and July, with more set for release between September and December 2025.
The MMO subsegment recorded net sales of ¥9.6 billion, down ¥2.9 billion year-on-year, and operating income of ¥3.6 billion, down ¥3.0 billion.
Games for Smart Devices and PC Browser posted net sales of ¥14.3 billion, down ¥4.6 billion from the previous year. Operating income rose by ¥0.3 billion to ¥3.3 billion, helped by better profitability from diversified payment methods.
Combined HD and MMO title sales reached 4.01 million units in the quarter, compared to 4.39 million last year. By region, sales were 0.65 million units in Japan, 2.88 million in North America and Europe, and 0.49 million in Asia and other territories.
Merchandising revenue fell to ¥3.7 billion from ¥4.4 billion. Operating income dropped to ¥1.2 billion from ¥1.6 billion, mainly due to lower sales of new character merchandise featuring key IP.
