Square Enix FY2026 Results: Stronger HD Games Profitability as “Quantity to Quality” Shift Continues

Square Enix released the financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, along with a progress update on the medium-term business plan.
In the Digital Entertainment segment, overall net sales declined, but operating income increased due to improved profitability. The HD Games sub-segment performed particularly well.
HD Games recorded net sales of ¥76.5 billion and operating profit of ¥14.1 billion. The report attributes this to steady sales of new titles released during the fiscal year and higher catalogue sales compared to the previous year.
Square Enix highlighted several Final Fantasy titles among the major HD releases that supported these results.
The MMO segment showed the expected decline following the previous year’s major expansion release.
The MMO sub-segment (primarily driven by Final Fantasy XIV) recorded net sales of ¥41.0 billion and operating income of ¥15.1 billion."
Games for Smart Devices and PC Browser also showed improved profitability despite lower net sales.
Total units sold (packaged + downloads) across HD and MMO titles increased from 25.45 million to 26.68 million units.
Square Enix highlighted again the strategy shift “from quantity to quality” in the Digital Entertainment segment.
Square Enix rebuilt its medium- to long-term pipeline and completed the transition of major titles, including Final Fantasy entries, to a multi-platform strategy. The company is establishing a framework for more regular new title launches for its major IPs.
Merchandising posted higher net sales and operating income, supported by royalty income from key IP. This included the MAGIC: THE GATHERING × FINAL FANTASY card game collaboration released during the period.
The report also shows Final Fantasy positioned across multiple business areas as Square Enix works to strengthen customer touchpoints through connected IP activities.
