PC - Dead Take: What the hell did I just play?!

ree

Like the title already says, this game definitely belongs in the “wth did I just play” category. I wanted to play it for a while and, as always, I didn’t know much about it before starting. (And I totally did not only check it out because of Ben Starr 👀)

The game actually has a pretty impressive cast, including Neil Newbon (Baldur’s Gate 3), Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVI), Jane Perry (Returnal), Matthew Mercer (Final Fantasy VII Rebirth), Laura Bailey (Catherine: Full Body), Sam Lake (Alan Wake), and Travis Willingham (Sonic the Hedgehog).

You play as Chase Lowry, an actor investigating the disappearance of his friend Vinny Monroe at a secluded Hollywood Hills estate. The story unfolds step by step as you explore the mansion, solve puzzles, and unlock different FMV sequences featuring the cast mentioned above. Each sequence gives you more insight into the disturbing secrets surrounding a party and the entertainment industry, revealing the personal costs some actors are willing to accept for fame. It’s all presented in a very psychological and immersive way.

The game is short, around five hours, maybe even less if you don’t embarrass yourself on some puzzles 😅. It costs 13 euros on Steam and was reduced to 11 euros some time ago. Considering the length and gameplay, I think it’s more of a sub-10-euro title.

If you enjoy atmospheric psychological horror with puzzle-solving like Resident Evil, it might be worth checking out. I definitely don’t regret playing it.
