Final Fantasy VII Revelation Features a Map “Far Bigger” Than Rebirth

Naoki Hamaguchi discussed in a GamesRadar+ interview how Final Fantasy VII Revelation expands the world scale beyond Rebirth, introducing full aerial traversal and reworked returning regions.

While Final Fantasy VII Rebirth moved the series toward an open world structure built from interconnected maps, Final Fantasy VII Revelation pushes this further with a more unified world map approach.

“With the third entry of our Final Fantasy VII Remake series, Revelation, we're offering an even bigger open world map. How that works is that there's obviously the Highwind [airship] traversal feature where players can fly around in the open world and they can parachute down anywhere they want to. It's not just that, but there's, when you look at the scale of it, the horizontal width of the map is far bigger than Rebirth, but it's also the vertical depth as well because now you can control the skies too.”

Beyond the increased horizontal scale, the world also expands vertically, with full aerial movement playing a key role in exploration. Hamaguchi notes that this results in a world larger than the combined scale of Rebirth’s regions.

All locations from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will also return in Revelation, though they are not direct copies. Instead, they have been reworked with additional environmental changes.

“I am happy to say that yes, again, all areas featured in Rebirth will also appear in Revelation in the same scope, if not bigger. We didn't want to just keep it the same as it was in Rebirth. We're actually adding a few touches and twists to it.”
