Square Enix Confirms New Final Fantasy VII Steam Release and Delisting of 2013 Edition

Square Enix has announced that a new version of Final Fantasy VII will be released on Steam. Once the new version goes live, the current release will be renamed Final Fantasy VII – 2013 Edition and removed from sale, while the incoming build will be listed simply as Final Fantasy VII. Existing owners will not be affected by the delisting and will automatically receive access to the new version at no additional cost, with both versions remaining available in their Steam library. Save data will not be compatible between the two versions, so progress cannot be transferred from the 2013 Edition to the new release.

No release date has been announced, and Square Enix has not outlined the feature set of the updated Steam version. More information is expected closer to launch.
