FFXIV Updates Materials Usage Policy to Allow Non-Commercial Fan-Made Items, Prohibit AI-Generated Works and 3D Printing
Square Enix has updated the Final Fantasy XIV Materials Usage Policy, effective September 16, 2026. The update allows fans to make physical fan-made items for personal use or as free gifts, as long as they follow the policy’s rules.
The items must be made personally and include a link or QR code to the policy. Players generally cannot commission a company or use paid printing services, although there are exceptions for business cards and stickers. Business cards must include the character name and Home World, or an activity name and related social account. Stickers may be based on the player’s own illustration or a screenshot that includes their own character.
The policy also bans 3D-printed items, items made using AI, items that imitate official merchandise, and the use of FFXIV or Square Enix logos. Fan-made items cannot be sold or used for commercial purposes.
The same policy also covers gameplay monetization and music use, including restrictions on uploading standalone music and using FFXIV TikTok Music outside TikTok. It is published in regional versions of the Square Enix Support Centre, and some rules differ by region.
