Final Fantasy: Origins of Light Board Game Details Revealed Ahead of Kickstarter

Final Fantasy: Origins of Light is coming to Kickstarter, and even though the campaign is not live yet and still lists the project as “Coming soon,” TechRaptor has provided detailed information about the game and the Kickstarter campaign after speaking with members of the game's design team at KessCo / Kess Entertainment.
According to the information shared, the Final Fantasy board game covers Final Fantasy I, II, and III and supports 2–4 players, with a solo ruleset also included. Players form parties of four characters, explore maps based on each game, fight monsters and bosses, visit towns, spend Gil, purchase equipment and magic, and level up their characters.

Each campaign has a different gameplay structure. Final Fantasy I uses six classic classes and is the simplest campaign. Final Fantasy II features nine named characters and introduces roguelite elements with randomly drawn tiles for encounters, treasure, and bosses. Final Fantasy III uses a drafting system with 24 character choices and jobs including Dark Knight, Bard, and Geomancer.

An additional Quick Play map allows Final Fantasy I and II characters to be used in a separate roguelite mode. The information also mentions a planned two-player Final Fantasy IV mode, although further details have not been revealed.

The game uses official Square Enix sprites for its characters, maps, items, summons, monsters, and bosses. The town included in the game was also created by Square Enix specifically for Origins of Light.

The reported Kickstarter tiers include premium additions such as metal Gil, lenticular summons, the Final Fantasy IV expansion, premium maps, card sleeves, and a premium game board. If the campaign fully funds, delivery is currently planned for May or June 2027.
Disclaimer: The Kickstarter campaign itself is not currently live, and these details are only based on TechRaptor's published information and interview with the design team. The official Kickstarter page currently shows the project as “Coming soon,” so the information may change once the campaign officially launches.
