Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed in an interview with Easy Allies during Tokyo Game Show 2025 that development of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is progressing alongside the port of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to Nintendo Switch 2. He clarified that separate teams are handling each project to avoid any disruption to the overall schedule.
Looking beyond the trilogy, Hamaguchi also discussed the future of the action-RPG combat system that has defined the series. He noted that while the exact mechanics will not be reused, the system could serve as a foundation for new designs.
“To keep it fresh, you want to keep it surprising for our players. But I think it is very possible for me to kind of take the Final Fantasy VII Remake battle system as a basis—have something that derives from that as an evolution.”
