More Fan Service Coming in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Specific Cameos Stay Secret

The team behind Final Fantasy VII Revelation is continuing the Remake trilogy's approach of incorporating material from across the wider Final Fantasy VII Compilation. In an interview with IGN during gamescom 2026, Naoki Hamaguchi explained that the development team has aimed from the beginning to build a new version of the Final Fantasy VII universe that can include its side stories, additional content, and spin-off titles.
“First of all, I just like to say, if I was to just come out now and say, ‘Oh yeah, this character is in it, this guy is in it, you will see this guy,’ it would be a big surprise to people, but it wouldn’t be a good thing. So I can’t say that."
Hamaguchi then explained the broader approach behind the trilogy.
“But there is one thing I can say: the objective we have, not just with Revelation but with all three of the games in the Remake trilogy, was to remake not just the original Final Fantasy VII itself, but to create a new version of the Final Fantasy VII universe which includes all of the Compilation, the side stories, the side content, spin-off titles within that content from the beginning."
He also pointed to the response to this approach so far.
“So I think fans have seen that throughout the series so far in Remake and Rebirth. And I think that was a really nice surprise, and people reacted very positively to seeing the Compilation characters appearing. And rest assured, quite naturally, that is going to continue into Revelation."
Hamaguchi also addressed what the team has been considering for the final installment.
“Obviously, with Revelation being the finale, the culmination of the series, the team got together and we thought really hard about what kind of fan-service things, what kind of ways people will be excited to see these characters and these references to the spin-offs appear in it. So rest assured that there is a lot of great stuff there for people looking out for that.”
