Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox Series X Shows Lower Resolution and Visual Issues According to Digital Foundry

A new technical analysis by Digital Foundry focuses on how the Xbox version compares to its PS5 counterpart, especially in terms of visual fidelity and performance.

Digital Foundry summarizes its findings by calling the results on Xbox Series X "bizarre," given the hardware capabilities.

"I compared a number of matching shots and a cutscene in the early game across the five mode and console variations we have, and the results are bizarre."

"The graphics mode has some weird problems relative to PS5. Firstly, the Series X is softer and lower resolution."

"In this shot, the PS5 is at 1440p and the Xbox is at 1224p. That’s a bit of a curious difference."

This difference in resolution is accompanied by additional graphical shortcomings:

"There is a dramatic divergence in foliage rendering, where the Xbox just kind of looks broken in some trees and some bushes, so that’s very odd."

Performance Mode also shows a significant disparity between the two platforms. While the PlayStation 5 version runs at 1080p, Xbox Series X drops to 720p. Despite this, Xbox manages to deliver a more stable frame rate.

"The PS5 is 1080p, Series X is 720p. It’s consistently lower throughout the shots I tested."

"In performance terms, the PS5 in this area is super wobbly in this opening kind of section, between 45 and 60 fps... but Series X is basically a locked 60FPS."

The Xbox Series S version does not present major concerns. According to Digital Foundry, it performs within expectations, with visuals slightly reduced and a locked 30 FPS frame rate.
