Final Fantasy VII Revelation’s Piano Minigame Features New Instruments and a Tifa-Focused Side Story

The piano minigame is returning in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and it won’t be a straight repeat of the previous version. Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the changes during an exclusive press presentation at Paris Games Week 2026.
“It’s not identical to the previous installment. It has evolved and will offer new things.”

The minigame now includes acoustic guitar, drums, and double bass alongside the piano. It also ties into a side story about Tifa and her relationship with music. One scene shown during the presentation has Tifa sit down at a piano before shifting into a childhood flashback, covering her father repairing the instrument and her parents supporting her while she practiced.
“There is something we want to convey to you through this game. It will have implications for the story and enrich the secondary storyline.”
If you’d rather not play the musical sections, you can skip the minigame and watch the cutscenes instead.
This also shows the change in how minigames are handled in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. According to Hamaguchi, they will have a stronger connection to the main story than they might initially seem.
“These are minigames whose implications are deeper than you might think, because the events they tell will have particular echoes in the main story.”
