Final Fantasy VII Revelation Features Early Highwind Access and Brings Back All Rebirth Locations

In a Denfaminicogamer interview, Naoki Hamaguchi said the game is now in its final polishing phase, with development focused on balancing and asset replacement ahead of a Spring 2027 release.

A major shift is early access to the Highwind. Players can fly across the world map from the beginning, but progression is intentionally unstructured. Many areas are reachable early, though stronger enemies will block straightforward progression, pushing players to decide where to go first. Landing in new areas is handled via parachute, and fast travel unlocks after visiting locations.

The world itself has been heavily reworked. Returning regions are back, but reshaped by the impact of the Weapons, changing geography, layouts, and enemy placement. The overall sense of scale is also noticeably expanded compared to previous entries.

Key locations include Midgar, Wutai, Rocket Town, and an underwater region. Wutai is significantly expanded with a political storyline involving Shinra, Avalanche, and the Turks. Midgar returns as an explorable area, with possible Deepground related encounters. Rocket Town has been moved into this entry and appears later in the story.

Traversal is unified through a single Chocobo companion, Piko, who evolves over time and gains new movement options like gliding, supporting full world exploration.

The FITS system adds flexible job style customization, with all four roles per character unlocked early to allow immediate build freedom.

Vincent Valentine can freely switch between human form and Beast Mode with no cooldown, shifting between ranged and close combat. Cid Highwind focuses on aerial dragoon style combat with strong group control. Both characters also feature synergy attacks with the rest of the party.

Zack has a larger role this time, used to highlight unusual world behavior and hints of layered or multiple timeline structure rather than direct explanations.

The main story has a single ending, but player choices affect a lot of side content. Some scenes and character moments can be missed depending on decisions, and the relationship system now covers the full party instead of focusing mainly on Cloud.

Minigames return in full, including the Tifa and Scarlet slap fight. They now include difficulty options and a skip function, with rewards shifted to cosmetic items. Knights of the Round is also confirmed with dedicated content.

The overall theme of the game is “resolve,” reflecting both the characters’ journey toward the finale and the developers’ goal of finishing the trilogy in a definitive way.
