Square Enix announced a new Streamlined Progression feature for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, coming with the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S releases. It has not been confirmed whether the feature will also be added to the already released PlayStation 5 and PC versions.
The Streamlined Progression feature allows players to customize their experience with several powerful options:
HP is always full - your HP is at its maximum value at all times. Even when hit by an enemy, your HP won’t go down. Instant death is also removed (sorry Tonberries!)
MP is always full - your MP is always at its maximum value. Sling out spells with wild abandon!
Limit gauge is always full - the Limit gauge is at maximum when you enter battle, and using powerful Limit Breaks won’t deplete it.
ATB gauge is always full - your ATB gauge is always maxed out, so you can unleash abilities as much as you want without restriction!
Damage dealt is always 9999 - with this set on, you’ll do maximum damage with every attack. No boss can stand against you!
Each setting can be toggled on or off individually, letting players either simplify combat or play with the standard balance.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi explained the intention behind the new system:
“The introduction of the Streamlined Progression feature was done to allow the game to cater for individual players’ different lifestyles and play styles.”
“The story is a major part of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE and there are players who want to be able to enjoy the battles and exploration more casually while they really focus on that story.”
“I feel that the way people enjoy content has become more flexible these days, as we see with video streaming platforms, and that people also want the same thing from games, with options to tailor the experience based on the time they have and their levels of interest. I have also had personal experiences where I wanted to play something with the limited time I have but gave up because of the time it takes to level up characters or traverse the game.”
“That’s exactly why I think that the Streamlined Progression feature is very effective - to give players smooth access to the story.”
“In addition, this feature is useful not only on the first playthrough, but also when you come back to play again as well. If you want to revisit a particular scene or just recap on the story then they let you proceed through the game at a good pace. They’ll definitely aid players understanding and should lead to some exciting new discoveries.”
