Final Fantasy VII Now Available DRM-Free on GOG; New Steam Version Replaces 2013 Edition

Square Enix has released a new PC version of Final Fantasy VII on both Steam and GOG. The GOG release marks the first time the original PC version is officially available DRM-free on the platform.
The new version is priced at $11.99/€12.99. On GOG, it launches with a 60 percent discount valid until March 8, 2026 at 6 PM CST.
According to the official store description, this release is an upgraded version of Final Fantasy VII – 2013 Edition and does not include any story changes or additions.
The following extra features are included:
◆ 3× speed mode
Play through the game at up to three times the speed! This feature can only be used in battle, travel, and select events.
◆ Ability to turn battle encounters off
Activate this option to turn off random encounters. Story event battle still must be completed to advance the story.
◆ Battle enhancement mode
Activate this mode to recover HP/MP during battles and max out the Limit gauge.
◆ Autosave feature
Access for FINAL FANTASY VII - 2013 Edition Owners
All players who already own the 2013 Edition are eligible to access the new version at no additional cost.
Both versions will remain accessible in the owner’s Steam Library
Save Data Information
Save data will not be compatible between the two versions.
2013 Edition saves will only work with the 2013 Edition.
New version saves will only work with the new version.
