Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Switch 2 Version Enters Optimization Phase

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is in active development for Nintendo Switch 2, following the recent launch of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the platform. Director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed the current status of Rebirth’s Switch 2 version in an interview with Polygon at the Switch 2 launch event. He explained that development has moved past the initial porting phase and is now focused on optimization and final polish, with more updates planned to be shared in the near future as the team works through the challenges of the game’s larger scale.

“At this point, we have gotten the game built. Our engineers are working hard to optimize and to provide the final polish on the build. I’m hoping that we’ll be able to provide more information on Rebirth in the very near future. Compared to the first title, the world map is a lot larger, so there is no doubt that it’s a more challenging production process. But our engineers are very passionate about the work that they’re doing, so I’m confident that we’ll be able to deliver.”
