Final Fantasy VII Rebirth takes a closer look at one of gaming's most iconic antagonists, Sephiroth. Following the success of the 2020 Remake, Rebirth promises to provide players with a more in-depth and nuanced understanding of the One-Winged Angel's character.
The development team, keen on enhancing Sephiroth's presence, shared insights into their approach. Producer Yoshinori Kitase highlights the shift, stating, "Remake covers your encounter with Sephiroth, and now within Rebirth, we wanted to make Sephiroth this very clear antagonist and target for the characters to go and pursue through their journey in Rebirth."

The game introduces a pivotal flashback mission, where players join forces with a heroic Sephiroth in the expedition to Mt. Nibel. Battle director Teruki Endo assures players that even in limited playability, Sephiroth is designed with equal consideration to resources and costs, offering a captivating gaming experience.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi underscores the team's cautious approach to handling Sephiroth, acknowledging the character's iconic status. "We felt it was necessary to have this very clear depiction of how he came to be the person that he is now in Rebirth," says Hamaguchi.

The narrative unfolds to explore Sephiroth's descent into darkness, adding layers to his character. Hamaguchi believes players will grow to relate not only to Cloud but also to Sephiroth through the course of Rebirth.
