Final Fantasy Resonance Announced as First HD-2D Entry in the Series, Launches October 22, 2026

FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE has been announced as the first HD-2D entry in the Final Fantasy series. It mixes older design ideas with more modern RPG systems and is positioned as a reinterpretation of the classic series identity rather than a straightforward remake of any single title.
Combat uses turn-based battles with updated mechanics layered on top. Familiar series elements are included, such as chocobos, espers, and airships. The game also features appearances from well-known characters like Cloud, Tidus, and the Warrior of Light, tying different parts of the series together.
Visually, it uses HD-2D pixel art with detailed environments and modern lighting effects, expanding on the style seen in previous HD-2D titles.
The story is based on the first arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius but has been rebuilt from the ground up as a full console RPG with a more complete structure.
Square Enix has set the release date for October 22, 2026. The game will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
Three editions are announced. The standard version is priced at €59.99/ $49.99. The Digital Deluxe edition includes the base game plus additional in-game items for $59.99. A Collector’s edition is also available for €219,99/$209.99 and includes physical items such as:
- Acrylic block set with pixel art of characters, summons, and bosses
- 120-page hardcover pixel art book showcasing in-game artwork and series illustrations
- Four-CD original soundtrack with 120 tracks from the game
- Promotional card for the FFTCG featuring Dark Fina
The Goods Box is also available without the game for €150,00/$150,00.
