As previously reported, Square Enix took action against Netoge Sokuhō, formerly known as FF14 Sokuhō, after determining that certain compiled articles harmed the reputations of company executives and employees. The site, categorized as a “matome” blog, aggregated excerpts from the anonymous message board 5channel. The case was resolved through a settlement that included a published apology, a scheduled closure of the site, and payment of a settlement fee.
On March 3, Umadori Sokuhō, another Final Fantasy XIV-focused matome site, announced it would cease updates and shut down. The administrator also issued a public apology to Final Fantasy XIV development and management staff. Unlike Netoge Sokuhō, the closure appears to be a voluntary decision made in response to the recent developments.
The statement published on March 3 reads:
“Having reconsidered the weight of responsibility involved in disseminating information online, I have decided to draw a line under this matter in my own way. To all the FF14 development and operations staff whom I have inconvenienced, I sincerely apologize.”
Like Netoge Sokuhō, Umadori Sokuhō compiled content from 5channel and featured comment sections beneath its articles. The administrator cited ongoing difficulties in moderating abusive and defamatory comments. IP-based bans were described as ineffective, as smartphone users could change their IP addresses and continue posting. Additionally, reports of Netoge Sokuhō’s closure appear to have driven additional traffic to Umadori Sokuhō, further complicating moderation efforts.
All article comment sections on Umadori Sokuhō are expected to be disabled within the coming days as the site moves toward full closure.
