Square Enix Takes Legal Action Over Articles Targeting Final Fantasy XIV Development Staff

On March 2, 2026, Square Enix announced a settlement with the administrator of the news aggregator blog Netoge Sokuhō (formerly FF14 Sokuhō). The legal action followed the publication of articles that Square Enix stated damaged the social reputation of Final Fantasy XIV development staff and other employees.
After the blog provider Livedoor revealed the administrator’s identity, Square Enix contacted them and entered negotiations that led to a settlement. Under the agreement, the administrator agreed to shut down the site, issue an apology, and pay an undisclosed sum.
In the administrator’s apology, they wrote:
“The publication of the article(s) in question was not intended to infringe upon the rights or reputation of any specific organization or individuals involved. However, we sincerely apologize for any concerns that may have arisen as a result.”
The move aligns with Square Enix’s Group Customer Harassment Policy, established in January 2025 to address harassment, including defamation and threats, against its employees. The company emphasized its commitment to staff protection.
“Going forward, we will continue to take strict action, including legal measures, against conduct that targets specific individuals or constitutes harassment that threatens the safety or mental well-being of our officers and employees, in order to protect them and maintain a healthy workplace environment.”
