Naoki Hamaguchi discussed the value of the team’s decade-long collaboration during an interview with GamesRadar at the Golden Joysticks Awards 2024. Reflecting on the team's accomplishments, Hamaguchi shared insights into the group's evolution and their readiness to tackle future projects.
“My team has developed so much together, grown so much, gotten so much experience and knowledge while working on the Remake trilogy”
He credited this sustained collaboration for equipping the team to meet the high demands of large-scale game development, emphasizing the importance of retaining experienced talent in today’s challenging industry landscape.
The team is currently finalizing the third installment of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, with the plot already completed. Speaking about the team’s next steps after Part 3, Hamaguchi remarked,
“When we get to the end of the trilogy, in terms of what the next project that the team works on, I really don’t know yet at all. It could be the next numbered Final Fantasy. It could be a completely different brand.”
Hamaguchi also acknowledged the difficulties faced by less experienced teams in developing high-end games, a challenge further complicated by industry-wide layoffs and studio acquisitions.
“For a team with no experience at all, who's never done a large-scale game, just to throw them in and get them to make something is such a difficult task”
As the trilogy approaches its conclusion, Hamaguchi expressed confidence in the team’s readiness for future endeavors.
“When we finally do bring the trilogy to a close and get the final game out, we’ll be in a really great position to move forward and do something even greater,” he stated.
