Back in February, KessCo announced a new licensing partnership with Square Enix focused on expanding Final Fantasy into tabletop gaming. According to the announcement, the agreement covers a multi-game lineup, including board games and collectible RPG dice sets inspired by Final Fantasy I to VI Pixel Remaster.
The first confirmed release was Final Fantasy: The Board Game. The cooperative tabletop game supports one to four players and adapts content from Final Fantasy I to III into a streamlined tabletop format. It was positioned as the starting point of KessCo’s broader multi-game deal and was scheduled for release in Q3 2026.
A few weeks later, KessCo also provided a first look at the Final Fantasy Saga board game during New York Toy Fair 2026.

After almost half a year without any news regarding the project, Alex Kessler, CEO of KessCo, announced on social media that the project, now titled “Origins of Light: A Final Fantasy Board Game,” is coming to Kickstarter on October 15. Demos of the game will also be previewed at Gen Con, North America's largest tabletop gaming convention, which will take place from July 30 to August 2, 2026.
We might also expect more information at that time.
