During the Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXXXVII, Yoshida addressed ongoing criticism regarding the recent state of Final Fantasy XIV. The livestream followed months of negative community feedback since the release of the Dawntrail expansion, including complaints about technical instability, balancing issues, and simplified job systems.
“I’ve been feeling that our quality of service has declined recently. I am very sorry for that.”
One major point raised was the difficulty of maintaining standards, particularly since the Dawntrail expansion, as the team’s rapid growth negatively impacted internal workflows.
“It feels like we got used to things a bit too much and got comfortable.”
“We grew bigger and processes didn’t fully work the way we had intended them to, we want to improve this again.”

With recent content like The Occult Crescent completed only around 400 times globally within the first 23 days (an extremely low number by FFXIV standards) community criticism has sharpened. Players also raised concerns over the lack of engaging endgame content and imbalance in difficulty levels. Yoshida acknowledged that these issues were especially apparent in newly released large-scale content.
“Especially with new and big content we have recently released, this was difficult. We want to keep providing fun and engaging content and we will strive to do better.”
Patch 7.3, titled “The Promise of Tomorrow,” is scheduled to release in early August and will address several long-standing issues. Yoshida confirmed it will include fixes related to feedback on the The Occult Crescent and Cosmic Exploration content, as well as adjustments for balance and accessibility.
