Naoki Hamaguchi Shares More Details About Weapons, Rocket Town, Zack and Sephiroth

In a new interview with PC Gamer, Naoki Hamaguchi talked in more detail about the Weapons, Cid and Rocket Town, Zack's expanded role, and the final confrontation with Sephiroth.
The Weapons will be split between main-story encounters and optional side content, with different difficulty levels depending on where they appear. The optional fights are tough, and you will probably need to be at a higher level than what is required to finish the main story.
"And whether they're ones in the main story or side content, they have a lot of unique mechanics and interactive elements; some of them even have mini-games in, and are quite strategic in that same way as well."

Rocket Town will revisit the Shinra rocket launch mission and the relationship between Cid and Shera, while also exploring Cid's experience with space travel. The area itself has been expanded, and Cid's car will be used to get around instead of the buggy from Rebirth.
"We really think that it'll allow players to explore Cid's internal world a little bit more."
Players will also be able to listen to background music while driving the car, with additional tracks potentially unlocked through side content.

Zack will also have a bigger role than he did in Rebirth, with more playable sections tied into the story. His gameplay has been expanded as well, with a unique combat system and a skill-tree-style progression system.
"It's very closely tied into the story experience, so it's on a much larger scale than what you've seen before, which I think will hopefully make Zack fans happy, and his sections, let's just say they are full of surprises."

As for Sephiroth, Hamaguchi said they have not actually confirmed a dramatic showdown in this third game. He then added that fans would be angry if there wasn't one, so there will be one. He did not reveal how the fight will work.
"What I can say is that it's going to be a very extravagant, all-out battle that will far and above surpass what was in Remake and Rebirth in what I believe will be a very satisfying encounter."
He also said fans are looking forward to Cloud's ultimate Limit Break, Omnislash, at the end of that fight.
"Obviously we are putting in plenty of homages to the original, including to things like that limit break. We have crammed it full of everything that we can."
