Naoki Hamaguchi Explains Why Final Fantasy VII Revelation’s Multiplatform Release Was ‘Inevitable’

In 2024 Square Enix announced that it would “aggressively” pursue a “multiplatform strategy,” and Revelation's launch approach follows that direction.

In an interview with Edge magazine, as reported by GamesRadar+, Naoki Hamaguchi says the game's multiplatform release was “an inevitable outcome” of how the gaming environment has changed.

He explained that players now use games across different types of hardware rather than being tied to one platform.

“I believe that what will be important in future triple-A game development is not how high-performance an environment we can use, but rather how widely we can deliver the core of the same experience across different environments.”

He also pointed to the different devices players use today.

“Players are no longer tied to a single piece of hardware.”

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will therefore launch across multiple platforms on day one, unlike Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which initially released as PlayStation exclusives before later expanding to PC and other platforms.
