Final Fantasy XIV PS4 Support Expected to End Around Patch 8.2

Naoki Yoshida addressed the future of the PlayStation 4 version, confirming that the platform is approaching its technical limits as the game continues to expand.
Yoshida explained that the issue is not related to graphical performance, but to the overall volume of data the system can handle as the game keeps growing. The PS4 is now nearing its maximum capacity.
“While Sony has allowed us to ‘limit break’ certain requirements, we’re quickly approaching the physical limit. You have two years to save up for a PS5.”
Based on current projections, Final Fantasy XIV is expected to remain playable on PS4 through the early 8.0 cycle, including the launch phase of Evercold and likely patch 8.1. However, the development team estimates that the platform will reach its limit around patch 8.2, with a possible extension to patch 8.3 depending on how quickly data requirements increase.
Yoshida noted that this is not a fixed cutoff point, but a projection based on current growth. Internally, the team expects the PS4 to reach its limits in the mid 8.x cycle, potentially around 2028.
The transition is being communicated in advance to give players time to move off the platform before support ends. The approach follows the earlier phase out of PlayStation 3 support, which continued through Heavensward before ending during the Stormblood era.
