Final Fantasy VII Revelation Team Is Working To Retain The Same 'Teen' Rating As Remake And Rebirth

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is currently listed on the Xbox Store with the ESRB rating “Rating pending, likely Mature 17+,” which led Naoki Hamaguchi to address the matter during a media roundtable interview with Asian gaming press.
“We are aware that there’s some kind of article floating around on social media about this. Just to state the facts here, we don’t have any intention of changing the rating from Rebirth and Remake.
We can’t say anything official right now because the ratings have not been accepted yet. We have done everything in our power to ensure that we retain the Teen rating, as with the other two titles. We never went about thinking like, ‘Oh, we gotta make this more mature.’ That wasn’t part of the plan.”
The final ESRB classification is still pending, but Hamaguchi also explained how the Teen rating has been considered throughout development:
“We, as developers, try to operate within the framework of what we believe to be the Teen rating, and no one’s ever come up to me like, ‘Oh, we have to make this moment mature because I want to do this scene.’ That’s not how we really operate on the development side.
But, at the end of the day, we’re still in the process of getting the ratings reviewed and processed. So maybe there will be something we find [that] doesn’t fit within these parameters, but we always try to make sure that we are creating something that works within the framework of the Teen rating.”
