In an interview with Polygon, Naoki Hamaguchi shared new details about the return of the Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Among the changes planned for the iconic location is a brand-new narrative that will take place entirely within the area and remain separate from the game’s main story.
“In addition to all the new minigames that will be included within the Gold Saucer, there’s actually going to be a new piece of narrative being told in the area. The way that the story unfolds is going to be quite interesting. I’m actually dying to tell you more about it, but for obvious reasons I think it’s better if we keep it for the future. The main story will not be connected to the Gold Saucer, but there is going to be this completely new narrative told within the area.”
Hamaguchi also discussed adjustments to the Gold Saucer’s layout. One of the biggest changes affects Wonder Square:
“The Gold Saucer was separated into distinct squares. There was the Wonder Square, an area that had the G-Bike and the snowboarding minigame that was under construction in Rebirth. What’s going to happen in that area in Revelation is that, due to the immense popularity of Queen’s Blood, the square has been completely taken over by Queen’s Blood! All of that area is just going to be Queen’s Blood content.”
Despite the Queen’s Blood takeover of Wonder Square, Hamaguchi confirmed that existing attractions have not been removed. The snowboarding minigame will return in Final Fantasy VII Revelation and has been relocated to Speed Square.
