Final Fantasy VII Revelation: Battle Members Limited to Main Characters, Guest Characters Join Temporarily as Playable Allies

In an interview with Denfaminicogamer, Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Vincent and Cid are the only new permanent battle party members, emphasizing that the Remake trilogy's goal is to faithfully bring the original cast to life rather than introduce entirely new main characters. However, he revealed that Zack and other guest characters will become playable at key points in the story, similar to previous entries.
"The battle members are limited to the main characters. What the Remake series is aiming for is, fundamentally, to revive the characters from the original version. So I don’t think creating and adding entirely new characters here is what the fans are looking for.
That said, at key moments throughout the game, we have prepared story sections where — just like in the previous entries — Zack appears or other guest characters join the party as playable characters. However, the basic style is still to thoroughly customize and control the main characters."
