Final Fantasy VII Remake Aims to “Create New Fans 20 or Even 30 Years From Now”

During the PAX West 2026 panel “From Reunion to Resolve: Designing the Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy,” Naoki Hamaguchi highlighted the project's goals and what this could mean for the future of Final Fantasy VII.
Hamaguchi explained that the Remake project was about more than simply remaking the original Final Fantasy VII.
"An effort to pass Final Fantasy VII onto the next generation"
The team also wants the Remake project, like the original game, to bring in new Final Fantasy VII fans decades from now.
"We want to make this a work that creates new fans 20 or even 30 years from now."
The presentation slide from the panel also listed “Expand FFVII's Future” as one of the project's goals, alongside the aim to “Move beyond being a classic of the past and shape it into an IP with an ever-evolving future.” What this could mean for the future of the franchise is left open to interpretation.

The expanded edition, FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE, and the second entry, FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH, are now available for Nintendo Switch 2, XBOX Series X|S, XBOX PC, PS5® consoles and PC. FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION, the climactic conclusion of the series, will release for PS5 consoles, Nintendo Switch 2, XBOX Series X|S and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and XBOX PC, in Spring 2027.
