Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Utilizes AI for Lip-Syncing In Gameplay Conversations

In the world of video games, the use of AI has been a topic of debate. According to a recent Ultimania translation by the Shinra Archaeology Department, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth uses AI for lip-syncing, specifically in cutscenes and conversations during gameplay. While artists still animate the lip-syncing in cutscenes, an AI module has been trained to synchronize character movements during gameplay conversations. This use of AI helps developers and streamlines the development process.

In the past, Square Enix has expressed their intention to "aggressively" incorporate AI into game development. This statement initially raised concerns among fans and developers, fearing that AI would replace human jobs. However, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demonstrates that AI can be a valuable tool for assisting artists, rather than replacing them.
