Following the release of the Final Fantasy Resonance demo, RPG Site spoke with Director Hiroto Furuya and Producer Keisuke Nakashima at PAX West 2026 about the reaction to the demo and some of the questions surrounding its origins as a mobile title.
“Whenever we had the opportunity to meet with the media or talk with other people prior to the release of the demo, we did hear voices of concern or uncertainty regarding Final Fantasy Resonance. This was due to the fact that there were questions around whether there are gacha mechanics or its nature as a title originally based on a mobile game. But we truly feel this demo will kind of dispel any kinds of uncertainty or concerns that people may have had. In that sense… yeah, I’m really relieved and happy.”
The full game will also expand the stories of several Brave Exvius characters. While Rain and Lasswell already have side quests in the demo, Nichol, Jake and Lid will receive their own quests, exploring their backgrounds and relationships in ways that were not covered in the original mobile game.

Resonance will feature 26 Visions. According to Nakashima, the selection of Brave Exvius characters was partly based on popularity polls from the game's Japanese and overseas audiences, with gameplay, story depth, narrative potential and game balance also considered.
“As of now, there are currently no plans for additional Visions. We wanted to make sure our focus and all our resources were allocated towards ensuring a satisfying and fun main game experience. If the reception is there and if it’s successful, it does open up possibilities. However, again, our focus is really the main game itself.”
Whether Sephiroth can be recruited and summoned as a Vision remains unclear. After his announcement and appearance in a 3DCG sequence, Nakashima declined to confirm whether this will be the case, leaving that for players to discover.
Furuya also addressed the recent resurgence of turn-based RPGs and JRPGs and how he sees Resonance within that broader trend.
“Looking at the recent wave of things globally, it seems there’s a resurgence of turn-based RPGs and JRPGs. It is kind of like being re-examined once more. We consider Final Fantasy Resonance as one aspect of that overarching wave or trend. I think there is something to note about the appeal of classic RPGs, and the fun of classic RPGs, really. We’re trying to capture that through Final Fantasy Resonance - but not stop at that. We wanted to ensure that we’re delivering a new experience, a new title, to audiences all around the world.”
