The Final Fantasy IX anime appears to be back in production with the French studio Euro Visual, following the closure of Cyber Group Studios earlier this year. The series is aiming for a 2028 release.

According to the French magazine Écran Total, the anime will be 2D animated and aimed at children aged 6 to 13. It is planned to run for thirteen episodes, each 22 minutes long.
The current production is reportedly continuing with the ideas previously developed by Cyber Group Studios before it closed. It will follow six Black Mages: Mel, Koln, Luciola, Thea, Fala, and Doc, who were created from Vivi's life energy. Set around ten years after the events of Final Fantasy IX, the story takes place in Alexandria, where the siblings live peacefully until Koln finds Mel imprisoned in a giant crystal at an inn. In search of a cure, they embark on a journey that leads them beyond their home for the first time.
