Third Major Final Fantasy XI Server Closed to New Adventurers

Square Enix has confirmed further congestion measures for Final Fantasy XI, with Odin World set to close to new players beginning March 10, 2026. The announcement was made by Producer and Director Yoji Fujito in an official blog post.
Odin has consistently ranked as the game’s third largest World by concurrent users. After the earlier closures of Asura in July 2025 and Bahamut in October 2025, many new players chose Odin as their starting World. Since the second half of 2025, this shift has led to ongoing congestion.
"Once again, we are seeing periods of congestion on the game's servers, this time with the Odin World, so I'd like to take a moment to explain what measures we will be taking to help address the issue."
Effective March 10, Square Enix will suspend new character creation on Odin, suspend transfers to Odin through the Character World Transfer Service, and suspend the Vana’diel Adventurer Recruitment Program for that World. Existing characters on Odin are not affected.
"Like what happened with the Asura and Bahamut Worlds, too many concurrent users can overwhelm the servers, leading to slowdown in the game and the potential for other related issues."
Yoji Fujito said the team will continue monitoring logged-in user numbers and related factors and will resume the suspended services when appropriate. The team is also considering additional measures for other heavily populated Worlds to better balance server populations.
Asura and Bahamut remain closed to new adventurers. Although both Worlds have seen a slight drop in total population since their closures, overall server load has not improved much.
"In regards to the Asura and Bahamut World servers, although there has been a slight decrease in the overall player population, the server load remains relatively unchanged, so we are continuing to close off those Worlds to new adventurers at this time."
With Odin now joining Asura and Bahamut, the three most populated Worlds in Final Fantasy XI will be unavailable to new players starting March 10.
