Square Enix Plans to Remove 14-Day Limit and Raise Level Cap for Final Fantasy XI Free Trial

Square Enix announced during a recent Japanese livestream that it plans to expand the free trial for Final Fantasy XI with two major changes. The current free trial is limited to 14 days with a level cap of 50, but the plans are to remove the time restriction entirely and raise the cap to level 75. An implementation date has not been announced yet, though Square Enix said it plans to roll out the changes as soon as possible.

The updated trial will allow players to create up to three characters per account. Characters will be able to progress normally up to level 75 in the base game areas, and players can still continue participating in quests and events after hitting the cap. The expanded free trial will still only include areas from the original Final Fantasy XI release, meaning expansion zones will remain unavailable for trial accounts.

Square Enix confirmed that all existing restrictions for free trial accounts will remain in place.
