Square Enix Announces New FFTCG Starter Decks Featuring Cloud and Zack and Booster Set “Journey of Discovery”

Square Enix has announced the next wave of Final Fantasy TCG products with two new Starter Sets and a major Booster Pack expansion scheduled for late 2025. Starter Set 2025 Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 are set for release on October 3, 2025, while the new booster set, titled Journey of Discovery, will follow on November 14, 2025.

Starter Set 2025 Vol. 1 features a Fire/Water deck focused on Zack, designed for aggressive play styles. It includes 58 cards in total: 50 main deck cards and 8 Limit Break cards. Each deck contains 12 Starter Exclusive cards, four types with three copies each, including Wuk Lamat, Charlotte, and Yuna. One of the three Zack cards will be a full art premium card. These Starter-exclusive cards will later appear only as premium versions in the upcoming Journey of Discovery booster set.

Starter Set 2025 Vol. 2 includes an Earth/Lightning deck built around Cloud. This set is structured for versatility and board control, allowing players to disrupt opposing Forwards while enhancing their own. The deck layout mirrors Vol. 1 with 58 total cards and the same exclusive card distribution. The deck features Luso, Sphene, and Lightning, with one of the Cloud cards printed as a full art premium card. All four Starter-exclusive cards from Vol. 2 will also appear only as premium versions in Journey of Discovery.

Journey of Discovery will add 121 normal and 163 premium cards to the FFTCG catalog. Of the 163 premium cards, 129 are premium versions of standard cards, 32 are full art cards, and two are categorized as Special and Crystal, respectively. A major highlight is Terra, illustrated by Fumio Minagawa, which includes a foil-stamped signature—marking the first time his signature appears on an FFTCG card.

The booster set includes 28 newly illustrated cards focused on characters from Final Fantasy VIII. Three previously released Legacy cards return as premium full art: Regis, Neo Exdeath, and Ace. These cards remain tournament legal. The Buy-a-Box Promo card will no longer be distributed with Journey of Discovery display boxes.

The set will also include content from Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. Artists contributing new illustrations include Rubi Asami, Gen Kobayashi, Lisa Fujise, Miki Yamashita, Toshiyuki Itahana, Ryoma Ito, and others, spanning multiple titles across the franchise.
