Naoki Hamaguchi Says There’s No Single Correct Way to Start the Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy
Naoki Hamaguchi has discussed again in an interview with GamesRadar+ whether newcomers should play the original 1997 Final Fantasy VII before starting the Remake trilogy, stating that both approaches can work.
"If you know what that original storyline is and you can pick up on what's changing or looking like it's going to change, you're going to have more fun. And you're going to get more out of it."
At the same time, Hamaguchi says the Remake trilogy was designed so that players who have never experienced the original can still jump in without that prior knowledge.
He also sees a different benefit in starting with the Remake series, particularly for someone experiencing the story for the first time.
"You could actually look at it the other way around, too, and maybe say that it's better to start with the Remake series for a different reason."
"You're experiencing it for the first time in this modern graphical splendor. That might also be a better way of doing it. So I guess really it's down to people's preferences. It's not as clear cut as one way or the other."
