Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, Localization Director for Final Fantasy XVI, detailed the upcoming lore book LOGOS: The World of Final Fantasy XVI, set to release on March 26, 2026. The 256-page hardcover is presented as an in-universe historical work compiled by Harpocrates II Hyperboreios.
“He knows that someone will need to pass this story down to future generations, but he also understands that it shouldn’t simply be he who tells this story. It should be told by everyone who was a part of it.”
Fox confirmed that over 90% of the book’s material was created and curated specifically for this book. It draws from Kazutoyo Maehiro’s original lore “bible” but was largely created specifically for LOGOS, offering content not seen in the game. The book is structured in five chapters: a full timeline of Valisthea, the eight Dominants and their Eikons, Clive’s Hideaway and its residents, the Mothercrystals and the nature of aether, and a detailed look at the five nations, including geography, culture, and minor characters.
"I knew right away that I didn’t want it to end up a straight telling of all the secrets of the game. I didn’t want it to be written from the perspective of an all-knowing, all-seeing development team member. I wanted it to be something that felt like it belonged in Valisthea."
LOGOS includes letters, diary entries, plays, poems, songs, recipes, and other in-world documents, providing a “living history” of Valisthea. Fox emphasized that the book is not an omniscient encyclopedia: Harpocrates compiles both reliable and unreliable sources, occasionally noting assumptions and possible errors.
“Harpocrates is gathering information – both reliable and unreliable – from all manner of sources, and then determining whether or not it should earn a place in his compilation based on his own assessment of the material.”
The book also features contributions from cast members Ben Starr, Stewart Clark, and Christopher York, further expanding the perspectives presented.

About FINAL FANTASY XVI
FINAL FANTASY XVI introduces players to an original standalone story in the FINAL FANTASY universe, an epic dark fantasy that takes place in the realm of Valisthea – a land blessed in the light of the Mothercrystals, and where peace falters as the spread of the Blight threatens to destroy their dominions. The fate of the land is decided by the Eikons, mighty summoned beasts and their Dominants, men and women who have been blessed with the ability to call upon and wield them. This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title “First Shield of Rosaria” and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon known as Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.
The first DLC chapter, “Echoes of the Fallen,” unlocks new story, battles, weapons, accessories, level cap and more. The adventure begins before the base game’s final battle, as strange, dark crystals begin to circulate on the black market. Players will follow Clive and company during their investigations as they encounter a group of suspicious traders, leading them to a long-abandoned Fallen tower known as the Sagespire and the terrible secrets that await within.
The second, and final DLC chapter, “The Rising Tide,” brings an all-new story, battles, sidequests, weapons, accessories, level cap and more, adding a new depth to Clive’s journey before the exciting conclusion of FINAL FANTASY XVI. Players will gain new Eikonic abilities, explore a beautiful new area in the hidden land of Mysidia, and dive into battle against the legendary water Eikon, Leviathan the Lost. This DLC also adds brand new end-game content with the Kairos Gate, where players will challenge 20 stages of intense scored and ranked battles against waves of enemies.
