Square Enix has confirmed further congestion measures for Final Fantasy XI, with Phoenix World set to close to new players beginning June 10, 2026. The announcement was made by Producer and Director Yoji Fujito in an official blog post.
According to Fujito, Phoenix has become one of the game's busiest Worlds after attracting a large number of new adventurers since late April. As player activity continued to increase, the development team determined that additional measures were necessary to maintain server stability.
"We previously suspended the creation of new characters and character transfers for the Asura, Bahamut, and Odin World servers, and have noticed that similar overcrowding is now occurring on the Phoenix World server, meaning that we will need to take similar measures for it as well."
Beginning June 10, players will no longer be able to transfer characters to Phoenix through the Character World Transfer Service. New character creation and the Vana'diel Adventurer Recruitment Program will also be suspended for the World, though existing Phoenix characters will not be affected.
"Like what happened with the Asura, Bahamut, and Odin Worlds, too many concurrent users can overwhelm the servers, leading to slowdown in the game and the potential for other related issues."
Fujito said the team will continue tracking player activity and other operational data while evaluating when the suspended services can be restored. He also noted that Square Enix is considering additional population balancing measures should similar situations develop on other crowded Worlds.
The producer provided an update on the previously restricted servers as well. While Asura, Bahamut, and Odin have seen a slight reduction in overall population since restrictions were introduced, the impact on server load has been limited, resulting in those measures remaining in place.
"Although there has been a slight decrease in the overall player population on the three servers that are currently being restricted, the server load remains relatively unchanged overall, so we are continuing to close off those Worlds to new adventurers at this time."
Phoenix will become the fourth Final Fantasy XI World with restrictions on new adventurers, joining Asura, Bahamut, and Odin when the changes take effect on June 10.
