The latest Astro Bot update, available today, July 10, 2025, adds Cloud Strife and Sephiroth as collectible Special Bots. The two characters are hidden within the newly released Vicious Void Galaxy challenge levels.

The Final Fantasy Bots are integrated into the Vicious Void Galaxy levels but are not tied to additional stages beyond this challenge pack.

Cloud can be unlocked by completing the level "High Inflation". Sephiroth becomes available after all five Vicious Void Galaxy levels have been cleared and the Bots inside them rescued. This marks the first time Final Fantasy characters appear in Astro Bot, despite over 170 other character cameos from PlayStation history already being featured at launch.

The earlier absence of Final Fantasy characters was previously implied to be due to Square Enix's stance on licensing, with Team Asobi stating they "really respect the choice of each publisher." However, their inclusion in this new update suggests that Square Enix has since changed its stance.

In addition to Cloud and Sephiroth, the update also adds 2B from NieR: Automata and Serge from Chrono Cross, further expanding Square Enix's presence in the game.
