Larian Studios publishing director Michael Douse recently commented on the commercial potential of a traditional turn-based Final Fantasy game. In a series of tweets, he outlined both the market demand and the business case for revisiting the series' original combat format.
He first pointed to a strong existing audience for a more classic Final Fantasy experience and suggested that such a title could perform well commercially.
He later offered more specific projections, outlining the conditions under which a turn-based entry could succeed.
Although he clarified that not every Final Fantasy needs to adopt a turn-based system, he sees this as a strategic moment to explore the format again.
