Famitsu 40th Anniversary Survey Names Final Fantasy Japan's Most Influential Series, Final Fantasy VIII Among Most Requested Remakes

Famitsu has published the results of a nationwide survey held to celebrate the magazine's 40th anniversary, with more than 5,000 participants voting across a range of gaming categories.

One of the biggest results for Final Fantasy was the franchise being voted the most influential game series in Japan, ahead of Dragon Quest and Pokémon. Several Final Fantasy titles also appeared in the "Most Influential Game" ranking, including Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy IV.

The survey also showed continued interest in older entries, with Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy VI appearing among the most requested remake and remaster projects.

The survey also found that Final Fantasy XIV ranked first in the category asking players which game they had spent the most time playing, while Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart placed second and third, respectively, in the favorite character ranking. Square Enix was also voted Japan's second favorite game developer.
